Social media is turning us into sneaky ass bastards

One of the things that really grinds my gears today is how social media is allowing people to turn into sneaky shitheads to get away with being unaccountable.

In WhatsApp, users get to remove the settings whereby others can see whether they’ve read a text or not and when they were last seen online.

As far as I remember, my friends remove this just so they can get away with not replying their girlfriends or other girls.

This is annoying because now they pretty much get to get away with anything. They just have to say, “Sorry I was busy” or “Oh I just saw your text.”

And you can’t argue against that today. Long ago, before social media, I had a friend who would always say how the country’s telephone company’s network was down, hence he didn’t receive my text. It was easy to call bullshit on that then, but today? Not so much.

This is why I don’t get why people like to complain about social media is making us disconnected from one another, the prime example being how people are glued to their phones in public, like watching a video or playing games on the train.

For fuck’s sake, let them. It’s not a big deal. It’s not like the train is filled with nature and good shit to lay your eyes on.

The problem only comes when the people you care about simply refuse to give a shit even though they can.

Think about that.
