Reader’s Digest and being mentioned by a millionaire in a video

1) A couple of days ago I woke up to a Facebook message from my cousin.

It read, “Alden! You’re famous!”.

At first I was like… what?

And then I remembered a reader mentioning in the comments that she found me in Reader’s Digest.

Then I was like whoaaaa! That’s huge! For me at least.

Since I was a little kid, there have been a ton of Reader’s Digest magazines lying around the house. My dad subscribed to it. There’re even issues that are older than me somewhere here (probably in the toilet).

Anyway, here’s a screenshot of it. I don’t have the hard copy yet. Apparently I’m in March 2013 Issue Pg 9, but I’ve trouble finding an American copy here.

It isn’t a full feature of me though. I wasn’t even told!

2) Adam Hergenrother of Mind Spark personally contacted me about one of my guest posts at Change Your Thoughts

And he made a whole video out of it:

I don’t know why I didn’t post this sooner.

The whole video is about the article. But it was just amazing to hear him say, “ALDEN TAN~~~~~”.

No it’s not because I love the sound of my name, but it’s just… according to here, Adam’s a world-renowned speaker and a multi-million dollar entrepreneur. For him to actually take notice of me, to recognize what I’ve done, means the world to me.

It was also pretty awesome that he took the time to answer some of my questions. Thanks man. I owe you.

So yeah, I’m pretty sure if you put in all your heart and soul into what you love, people are going to eventually recognize that. If you work hard and don’t give up, the rewards will come, and they come out of nowhere.

For real.

I ain’t braggin guys. I don’t even feel like portraying some strong message here.

Just keep doing what you love. And for whatever you gain, be ridiculously proud of your fucking amazing-self. The video by Adam was made last November and I’m only posting it now. Don’t be lazy. Work hard. Keep at it. Make no apologies for yourself or your dreams.

It’ll be worth it.

You’ll be seeing more of me.

Thanks man. You have my thanks. 10 months (was it?) when I emailed you for a guest post and you taught me how to write was practically the start of it all.

This what naturally happens to people who are true to themselves and put that out there for other people to see. Keep it real, more will come, and you deserve it!

    • alden - February 19, 2013 1:54 am

Thanks David. Real indeed, something I didn’t want to compromise in my writing, but I did, and now I’m back stronger!
