December #dontgiveafuck Challenge Day 1: How to not be bothered by the state of the world


Whoa! Last night was just crazy right here in Singapore.

A riot broke out. Yeah. An actual riot. I can’t believe such shit happened over here.

It was reported that a bus knocked over and killed an Indian guy, then over 400 other Indians went ape shit and started a riot. Yeah, it was crazy. Police cars were overturned, the ambulance was set on fire, the riot police had to be called down and all.

Now, if you ask me, the fallout is the worst part of it all. People are already tweeting and talking on Facebook how “Indians are f**ked up” or “The Singapore government is blah blah blah”.

The usual shit. God damn. So much hate. Race. Government. You name it.

And so, that’s our first December #Dontgiveafuck Challenge.

How to not be bothered by the state of the world

I know a lot of people feel depressed and shit because of the state of the world.

There’s a lot of hate, I’ll give you that. There’s rape, there’s war, there’s mugging and even people who don’t even have basic needs like food, water and shelter.

It’s pretty depressing. It can make you think, “Why even bother?”

Why even bother trying your best? Why even bother being nice? Why help others when you barely have enough?

There’re little steps you can take for yourself and then in turn those around you.

The world may not be all sunshine and rainbows, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t good people in it.

Let’s get to it!

1) Keep it real with your mindset

Yes. Life is unfair. Shit happens everywhere. You can’t deny that.

But you also can’t change or revolutionize things overnight. Even the greats who went down in history (the late Nelson Mandela for one) took a while in his life to make changes.

This is what I personally think. That’s not to say I don’t care. Read on.

2) Be positive through small things

Ghandi said, “Be the change you that you wish to see in the world”.

That’s awesome of course. How about we extend that? I say, “Start the change you want to see with little things”

So do the little things. Give to the poor. Help others when you can. Give up your seat to the elderly.

This will spark a chain of events that will create a larger impact in the long run. Even if you don’t see it, it happens.

This will also make you feel better. It’s fucking way better than being pissed and depressed as you overthink everything.

3) Stop thinking about it

Now you got to stop thinking about it. I’m serious. It’s a mindset thing.

If you spend 12 hours a day thinking about shitty things, you’re going to feel like shit.

If you spend 12 hours thinking about things you care for, you’ll feel better. It’s that simple.

I know this sounds like lump of cliché “positive thinking” jargon, but it’s true. You need to stop that train of negative thoughts before it wrecks your mind and body.

So put in that effort to stop thinking of the crap.

4) Stop reading the news or clicking on bullshit headlines

This is a huge no-brainer, but a lot of people can’t seem to figure it out.

Bothered by the world? Stop reading the news then. Throw away your newspaper.

Bothered by that gory video you just saw online? DON’T CLICK ON IT.

It boggles my mind to why people would want to ruin their day by reading up on bad shit or watching some disturbing video.

I personally don’t read the news anymore. I also block people constantly on my Facebook newsfeed, mostly after I see them post some garbage.

Trust me, many successful people don’t read the news. Why do you think they’re mostly busy with their work?

It’s not like you’re out of the know when you stop reading the news. If something is important, it will get to you. So let it get to you.

5) Just continue living by doing what you love

Find passion and start doing what you love! Focus on that!

Well, you got one life. Go for it. Keep living. Nothing and nobody can ever take away your happiness.

It’s all up to you.

If you follow the steps above to shift your mindset a little, it will be all good.

Life is good. Life can be good. Don’t let external shit get you down. Don’t let other self-destructive people get you down.

Live life. Do what you love. That’s how you inspire others without even trying.

Your assignment: For today’s challenge, your assignment is simple.

Go through one day without Facebook. That’s all. You’ll be surprised how much new and positive shit you can get done when you’re off reading bullshit non-stop.

    This may be my favorite challenge yet. I’m always battling angst and freakout over everything from the state of the world to the tires on my car. Then I log into FB and see the domestic violence memes, and the abused animal memes and all the others that scream, “There is no hope for the world!” I need to take some of these to heart and let it go.
