Creating art is feeling, be it writing, poetry, painting, dancing, singing or even how you plan to conquer the World of Warcraft.
I find that a lot of people forget this, that art is nothing but feeling. In others, how you personally feel about that piece of creation in front of you.
Why do we forget? Because we’re bombarded with misguided advice out there which we think we must take in just because of the ease of looking at it i.e. Googling shit that easily.
Nah man. Forget all of that.
Art is personal. It comes from you. At the end of the day, although you should always learn to improve yourself and hence your art, your opinion matters the most.
Art is subjective. As I wrote in my guide on writing here, somewhere out there is somebody who thinks Harry Potter or Lord Of The Rings is a piece of shit, and that is that. Again, your opinion matters the most.
Art does not belong in the realm of marketing. It is easy to allow the two to overlap today, and then you get confused as fuck. You may even get jealous as you wonder why stupid shit out there by idiots go viral for seemingly no reason, or why assholes get rich from producing shit. Marketing is marketing, and business is business. They help to spread art, but not to create art.
Art can be taught. Putting yourself in your art cannot be taught. Learn your basics. The rest is up to you. Do not be waylaid into thinking that you can be taught to be great in your art. Every time you read some how-to, top 10 or bullshitty lifehack article, you effectively escape your heart and go to your head. Art comes from the heart. Not your brain. Also, the people who claim that they can teach you to be great in art are only good at saying shit specifically designed to make you pay them.
I’d dare say even, to stop taking advice that come in an instructional format. They force you into becoming a student with a one-track mind. Instead, you should just bask yourself in other forms of art. Read books. Go to a concert. Talk to people. Whatever.
Art is a lifestyle. Live it and breathe it. Let it seep into your everyday life. Tell others about it. Don’t shut up. Think about it, even when you’re doing the dishes. It will never stop.
Art is feeling. You MUST feel that shit from within when you’re creating. I mean after all, if it’s art to you, and something you love, why bother if it doesn’t make you feel that fucking ‘high’ you so deserve?
Why bother living then?
