1) Don’t take it personally from anybody
When you feel slighted by a person through a verbal insult or some form of unfounded criticism, always remember not to take it personally.
What others say or do isn’t the result of a personal agenda created just to make your day worse. More often than not, it means they’re suffering deep inside themselves, and instead of trying to work on themselves, they decide to take it out on others.
And that’s not something you need to respect at all.
2) Stop believing everything you read in the news
Never believe everything you read in the news, especially from the internet.
The headlines were created just to draw your attention and make you click or read the piece. What more, the journalist may intentionally fabricate the article just so you would share it.
So if you always find yourself affected by the news you read, maybe it’s time you stop taking them so seriously and form your own opinions instead.
3) If it’s just a joke, then remember that it’s just a joke
If you get offended by a joke told by a friend, it’s easy to start thinking shit like, “I do not think this is funny because it goes against everything I believe in” or “I bet he intentionally did it just to see how I’d react.”
But that’s too easy honestly.
You could instead, chill the fuck out and remember that it’s a joke. Then let it go, laugh a little even and move on. Done.
4) Remember that you can’t please everyone in life
Simply because, it’s impossible.
You’re bound to run into people who’d have a problem with you. And that’s not your problem, remember that.
You can’t be everybody’s best friend. If somebody isn’t pleased with you when you know you didn’t do anything wrong, then you’re good. There’s no reason why you need to do anything.
5) Don’t try to fall in love on the first date
I’ve seen this in so many people and I find it kind of bizarre.
People take their first dates too seriously. They try to access the other party in every, tiny, possible way to see if they can be a potential partner for life.
That’s nonsense. That’s the surest way to ruin a date.
Chill the fuck out! Stop trying to fall in love on the first date. Enjoy the companionship and opportunity to know somebody new. That’s it.
6) Your religion is not you
I’m not trying to step on toes here, but hear me out:
Your religion is not you. Your religion acts as nothing more than a guide to help you lead a better life. It is impossible to take every rule or dogma literally, because you’re only human. And that said, you’re flawed.
You are instead, the result of all your actions, decisions and heart and soul put together. You create your own experiences and memories. They will never lie to you, so listen to them.
In short: Be kind to people. Help others when you can. Keep your conscience clear. That’s it.
7) Remember this quote on love
One of the best quotes I’ve ever come across on love:
“We have this idea that love is supposed to last forever. But love isn’t like that. It’s a free-flowing energy that comes and goes when it pleases. Sometimes, it stays for life; other times it stays for a second, a day, a month or a year. So don’t fear love when it comes simply because it makes you vulnerable. But don’t be surprised when it leaves either. Just be glad you had the opportunity to experience it.” -Neil Strauss
In other words, just try to enjoy the romance whenever you can.
8) Think about how others have broken the rules and are still alive
So you’ve met somebody who does things in a different way. They do things which you never think you will. Some of them have one night stands without using a condom! Holy fuck! You think it’s fucking insane!
But… hey, they’re still alive. They’re even happy. Heck, they’re even cool people who are friendly as hell to you.
If people like that exist, people who go against everything you believe in while being happy and carefree at the same time, there’s gotta be something to it right? Maybe you can chill a little too?
9) Resist the urge to classify yourself dramatically
Just because you’re angry a lot doesn’t make you a monster.
Just because you’re sad doesn’t mean you’re suffering from depression.
Just because you fell a little sick doesn’t mean your immune system is failing.
See where I’m going with this? Chill!
10) Just because you’ve something to complain about, doesn’t mean that you should
It’s just going to sap you of your energy anyway.
11) When you’ve a disagreement with friends, remember that you guys are still friends
And that doesn’t mean you guys need to fall out.
It can be talked through.
12) Remember that it is only life when things don’t go as planned
No, it’s not the end of the world. It’s not a time to feel defeated. It’s not a time to question why your life sucks.
It is only life. That’s it. Everybody goes through the same shit. So chill.
13) Know that you’re allowed to go a positive, crazy direction in your head
Isn’t it weird that negative thinking can completely overwhelm your head mind, but when it comes to something positive, we tend to quell it?
For example, it’s easy to get angry and start thinking for the entire day about how you want to kick that guy’s ass till he ends up in a coma. We call that normal.
But if however, you start to think about how your dreams will take you to places and start meeting celebrities and stuff, we call that crazy.
Maybe it’s time you took your mind in a positive direction instead, despite how seemingly crazy it sounds? It may sound a bit contradictory here, as you take your positivity too seriously, but the point of this article is to be happy. So try it.
14) You don’t need an apology to move on with life
So somebody pissed you off?
It’s okay. Just move on. It’s not a big deal if you didn’t get your “sorry.” If a person is not man enough to give to you, then the apology is essentially useless anyway.
15) Embrace uncertainty
That means to say, you shouldn’t be scared of a future you’re unsure of.
That is only normal. No one can predict the future, plus as mentioned, things never go as planned.
It’s okay if you don’t have everything covered. Just chill and take it as an adventure.
16) Take a break, have a beer
Working hard and all is good, but remember that you’re allowed to take breaks.
And perhaps, that’s where your most needed answer would come.
17) You can have fun in everything if you really want to
Yep. You know, bright side and all that shit.
18) Remember that you don’t need to feel guilty forever after you screw up
Because guilt is essentially useless. Learn with humility. That’s more important.
Then, move on. Stop beating yourself up.
19) Don’t even take yourself seriously!
Because for whatever values you have and however you’ve led your life, you’re bound to act in ways that’d surprise yourself.
That means you could end up doing something awesome and amazing without even trying, but on the flip side, you could do something you’re not proud of.
That’s just being human though. So don’t take yourself too seriously. Just keep learning and try your best in everything you do.
20) Stop over analyzing shit and take the damn compliment already
To use being complimented as an example… yes, just take the damn compliment already.
Revel in it. If somebody says you look good, then you’re beauty incarnate. Fucking celebrate!
Don’t be all, “Oh no, no I’m actually fat like a whale. Why, I actually ate too much carbs today.”
Whatever! Stop taking shit so seriously already.
21) Laugh at stupid jokes
22) Know that you can never really save enough honestly
So unless you’re super fucking rich where money is just like water to you, you can never really save enough.
Don’t attach your self-esteem and happiness to money. That’s literally putting a number to your emotions.
Have a good relationship with money and be in harmony with it. Save all you like for emergencies and stuff, but remember that’s it okay to spend without feeling the pinch too.
23) There’re people out there who are okay with what you’re not okay with
Say something or someone really offended you. You get upset and angry. You think it’s normal to feel like that.
But hey, one day, you see your friend going through the exact same situation and instead of getting upset over it, they shrug it off.
They are super chill. So if they can do it, why can’t you?
24) Remember that we’re all going to die
The same destination. We’re all headed there. We’ll all be equal then. No one really knows what’s going to happen after that.
So if everyone’s destination is the same, what really makes the difference is what we do we in-between birth and death.
Must you really take it that seriously then?
Think about it. I’ll leave you that.
